Wow! Who would have thought that sketching was going to be that hard. Not this gal! This experience was just a reminder that I need to focus and learn more about creativity in technology. I teach thrid grade. I try to limit the amount of technology to what is appropriate for my 8-9 years old. I do not want to use technolgy just for technolgy's sake. However, there may absolutely be some holes in my usage and teaching of transliteracy. First of all, what a time to each transliteracy, it has never been more relevant. As a teacher, I have absolutely used sketching with good old paper and pencil, we do this weekly, but I like the idea of branching out to other mediums. I am not sure how to do sketch-noting for third graders. I would need to think about it as we are limited with what technology and materials we have. Ideas are welcome as this tool may be wonderful in the virtual world.
I have for sure noticed some students come alive when we try to new things. Two weeks ago we tried Quizziz and there were a few who thought that was the best thing ever. I also notice with my own children that they love Kahoot! The competition comes out!
I think that transliteracy and the use of many different tools to be beneficial to student engagement and inclusion. Just like with math when teaching different strategies for multi digit subtraction, I need to teach students the many different strategies and when they are appropriate to use. I see that same thing would happen with technology. Some tools are appropriate to use at certain times and sometimes some tools may be your favorite and were easy for you to use. I don't like the timed feature on Kahoot! I mentally can't focus and it stresses me out but some people and kids are super motivated by that and they find it exciting. Some people find utilizing music to be unnerving while others shine. I love that about the transliteracy topic in that it is meant to show many different aspects of technol0gy and then is therefore somewhat personalized by users.
